The Cycle of Child Poverty
"A World Fit for Children is one in which all children get the best possible start in life. we will promote the physical, psychological, spiritual, social, emotional, cognitive and cultural development of children as a matter of national and global priorities."
- Plan of Action Signatories to the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on Children, May 2002.


What are the causes and solutions to child poverty? How can we stop it in its tracks? How can we make a world fit for children?

The gap between rich and poor is widening more and more each day. This trend isn't slowing down. The problem is gaining momentum. All members of the United Nations met in New York to sign the United Nations Declaration "A World Fit for Children" in May 2002. As signatory to the Declaration, all UN nations are obliged to develop a national plan of action to ensure our children are a priority on the public resources needed to advance their well being.

 

Millennium Development Goals

The United Nations Millenium Development Goal Targets 1 & 2 State that:

Campaign 2000: Clicking will open new window

Key MDGs goals to reduce poverty by half for 2015 and to reduce by half the number of those that earn less than a dollar a day.
