Access to Safe Water: Is it a Problem in Canada?

Did you know that 1.1 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water? What do you take for granted?
Students at Olympic Heights Elementary in Calgary, Alberta, Canada are working together with SOPAR to make a difference for those in India without safe drinking water. Children at Olympic Heights raised money through social action projects at school and at home to earn enough money to build water wells in India!

Students from around the world are involved in this Environmental Collaborative iEARN Project. Students are teaming up to test the quality and research the cultural significance of fresh water. Students will have the opportunity to compare the water quality of his/her local river, stream, lake or pond and the stories and practices dealing with water in your community with other fresh water sources around the world.

WaterCan is an organization dedicated to providing clean drinking water to the world's poorest people. Since its creation in 1987, WaterCan has assisted more than one million people in 32 developing countries. WaterCan currently supports projects in Africa.
There have been many schools involved in bringing clean water to Africa through the Water Can project.
